Japan has announced a major revision in its visa fee structure, effective from July 1, 2026.
This marks the first increase in nearly 48 years, with fees last updated in 1978.
The single-entry visa fee will rise from ¥3,000 (~AED 72) to ¥15,000 (~AED 360).
The multiple-entry visa fee will increase from ¥6,000 (~AED 144) to ¥30,000 (~AED 720).
This represents an increase of nearly five times across key visa categories.
Authorities say the revision is aimed at reflecting inflation and administrative costs. The changes will apply to all new visa applications submitted on or after the effective date.
Travelers from visa-required countries, will be directly impacted.
While costs will rise, officials state there is no immediate impact on approval rates or tourism policy.
