The United States is reportedly considering one of its largest-ever visa revocation actions, with up to 200,000 business and tourism visa holders potentially affected. If carried out, it would be the largest single-mass visa-cancellation effort in US history.
The review focuses on B1 and B2 visas, used for temporary business and tourism visits, issued between 2016 and 2026 to individuals who later filed asylum applications after entering the country. Authorities are examining cases where visitors appear to have shifted from short-term travel status to asylum claims, as part of a broader push to ensure visitor visas are used only for their approved purpose.
Importantly, losing a B1/B2 visa would not automatically mean deportation. Many affected individuals with pending asylum cases could continue those proceedings, even after losing their prior visitor classification. Officials haven’t confirmed a final number, and the review could evolve, potentially facing legal challenges over the scope of the government’s authority.
The policy doesn’t affect tourists broadly, but any such move could influence traveller confidence and scrutiny during future US visa applications.
