Dubai: Starting October 12, 2025, Schengen countries will begin using a sticker‑free, electronic visa system for visitors arriving from the UAE. Instead of placing a visa sticker or stamping passports, officials will capture biometric data—fingerprints and facial scans—on first entry.
The rollout will take place over six months, covering all 29 Schengen nations. After full implementation in April 2026, travelers will no longer receive physical stamps when entering or exiting the Schengen zone.
Under this system, each entry and exit will be logged electronically. Border crossings should become faster on future trips thanks to automated e‑gates. However, authorities will strictly monitor the 90‑day stay limit within any 180‑day period and flag overstays automatically. Officials say this change will make travel easier and borders safer.
